Pick-up from Kochi airport or railway station and check in. Late afternoon, walk the Fort Kochi waterfront to see the Chinese fishing nets being lowered at sunset, then watch a Kathakali performance at a cultural centre nearby.
After breakfast, drive into the hills with stops at Cheeyappara and Valara waterfalls. Check in and take an evening walk through the tea gardens near your hotel.
Morning at Eravikulam National Park to see the Nilgiri tahr on the grassy slopes of Anamudi, South India's highest peak. After lunch visit the Tea Museum, then drive along Mattupetty Dam, Kundala Lake and Echo Point. Evening free for the town's spice and tea shops.
Drive south through cardamom hills to Thekkady. In the afternoon, walk through a spice plantation to see pepper, cardamom, cinnamon and vanilla growing. In the evening, watch a Kalaripayattu martial arts show in Kumily.
Take the morning Periyar boat ride, then drive to a lake-side resort in Kumarakom on Vembanad Lake. Afternoon by the pool or on a sunset shikara ride.
Early walk in Kumarakom Bird Sanctuary for darters, cormorants and herons. Board your houseboat around noon and cruise to Alleppey.
Check out after breakfast and drive to Varkala. Walk the North Cliff at sunset.
Morning on Papanasam beach. Drive to Kovalam, stopping in Trivandrum for the Napier Museum and a view of the Padmanabhaswamy Temple.
Drive south into Tamil Nadu, stopping at Padmanabhapuram Palace (closed Mondays), the wooden palace of the Travancore kings. Reach Kanyakumari in the afternoon and watch the sun set over the Arabian Sea.
Wake early for sunrise over the Bay of Bengal. Take the ferry to the Vivekananda Rock Memorial and see the Thiruvalluvar Statue, then drive back to Trivandrum for your departure.
