Your driver meets you at Kochi airport or Ernakulam railway station. The road climbs from the plains into the Western Ghats, with stops at Cheeyappara and Valara waterfalls and your first view of the tea estates. Check in and spend the evening at leisure.
Morning at Eravikulam National Park to see the Nilgiri tahr on the grassy slopes of Anamudi, South India's highest peak. After lunch visit the Tea Museum, then drive along Mattupetty Dam, Kundala Lake and Echo Point. Evening free for the town's spice and tea shops.
Drive south through cardamom hills to Thekkady. In the afternoon, walk through a spice plantation to see pepper, cardamom, cinnamon and vanilla growing. In the evening, watch a Kalaripayattu martial arts show in Kumily.
Take the early boat ride on Periyar Lake, the best time to see elephants and gaur at the water's edge. Drive down to Alleppey and board your private houseboat around noon. Cruise through the backwaters past paddy fields and village life while the crew prepares lunch, evening tea and dinner on board.
Breakfast on the houseboat and check out by 9 AM. Drive to Kochi and, if time allows, see Fort Kochi's Chinese fishing nets and St. Francis Church before your drop at the airport or railway station.
