About Kochi

Most Kerala holidays start and end in Kochi. Cochin International Airport and Ernakulam's two railway stations make it the natural arrival point, and the city itself deserves at least half a day before you head to the hills or the backwaters.

The old quarter of Fort Kochi is walkable: Chinese fishing nets along the waterfront, St. Francis Church (where Vasco da Gama was first buried), the Santa Cruz Basilica, and streets of colonial bungalows turned into cafés and art galleries. A short drive away, Mattancherry has the Dutch Palace murals and Jew Town with the Paradesi Synagogue and its antique shops.

How to reach Kochi

Cochin International Airport (COK) has direct flights from all major Indian cities and the Gulf. Ernakulam Junction and Ernakulam Town railway stations are 12 km from Fort Kochi.

Which Kochi attractions are closed on Fridays?

Mattancherry Palace and the Paradesi Synagogue are closed on Fridays; the synagogue is also closed on Saturdays. We plan Kochi days around this.
